The light emitting diode, or "LED" for short, has largely obliterated the problems usually associated with navigation lighting. Powerful, efficient, compact, highly durable and extremely long lived; incandescent navigation lights never stood a chance once the LED was introduced. Where it was once pretty much standard practice to periodically inspect, clean and replace your lights several times during the boating season, LEDs have made it possible to go an entire season with little more than an occasional inspection to ensure everything is still operating as expected. In most cases, an LED lighting won't even need replacing for 5 years or more.
Whether LEDs are right for domestic use as an energy saving option comes down to the application and the situation. The question to ask is: will I recoup the cost of the lamp and more through reduced electricity use and long lamp life? If yes, then LED is the way to go, if not, there are other energy saving alternatives available.
Consider your lighting needs first. Not all of the flood lights in the market will offer you the benefits you are looking for. However, you can mix and match lighting fixtures to achieve the effect you want without cutting a huge chunk off your budget. Determine what sort of lighting fixture will work better in particular areas of your outdoor space. This will create depth in the area but will still work in offering more than adequate illumination. Make sure the placement of the fixture will really work for your existing outdoor decor or garden decor. You do not want to buy a flood light that has too much glare or it will detract the beauty of the garden at night. Just the right luminosity that will not compromise security and safety is imperative.
