Your kitchen is one of the most important areas of your home. This is exactly why you should design it to provide maximum comfort and efficiency. If you are not happy with your current kitchen, you should consider re-designing it to suit your taste. One of the most forgotten, but crucial element to having the kitchen of your dreams, is good lighting. Most people spend all their time focusing on the rest of the kitchen, such as the cabinets, counter tops, appliances, etc. As a result, they forget about this important, yet most often forgotten part.
One way to allow the sink and vanity area to serve both functions of relaxing us and waking us up is to install dimmers with preset timers for the lights. Dimmers can make that atmosphere of relaxation in the evening by giving you softer more soothing light, and then in the morning it allows you to brighten up the space for the jobs that need to be done in a hurry. Dimmers can also help to set that relaxing, romantic atmosphere that full lighting just can't achieve.
Another energy saving option is the halogen energy saver. These lamps only offer around a 30% energy saving over incandescents and typically last 2,000-5,000 hours but they do have some advantages over LED and CFLs which are worth considering. In some cases truly retrofit LED can be hard to find and difficulties with the fitting and size of the lamp can occur. The nature of a CFL means its appearance differs from that of an incandescent. Halogen energy savers are however available in a range of shapes including spot bulbs, GLS, candle, aluminium reflector and golf ball making them an easy retrofit replacement for many traditional incandescents and an option worth thinking about particularly if you require decorative on show lighting. For those wishing to retain the traditional shape of their lighting long term, a G9 halogen adaptor is a great way to do so. A G9 halogen capsule is fitted in to the adaptor base (available as SBC, BC, SES, ES) which is in turn screwed into a decorative cover. Once the halogen capsule has expired, the bulb can be unscrewed and only the capsule needs replacing - meaning your decorative lighting remains the same. Another advantage of halogen energy savers is that unlike some LED and CFL they are fully dimmable. Furthermore halogens and CFLs emit light evenly whereas LEDs emit light directionally so make sure to check the beam angle before purchasing to ensure you get the right light output.
