Fluorescent lighting has been around a long time and you may not think it is that efficient. Old fluorescent lighting certainly isn't T12 and T8 tubes and their drivers can be horribly wasteful, sometimes using double the amount of power they are rated at. However T5 fluorescent tubes coupled with a modern ballast is remarkably efficient, almost as efficient in fact as LED lighting. Modern warm start ballasts have also increased reliability and allowed for extending the life of the tubes which can now reach as much as 30,000 or 40,000 hours. Modern drivers also operate at high frequency, unlike their older counterparts, which mean there is no longer a noticeable flicker with fluorescent lights. Fluorescent lights do also suffer from early failures, and because they rely on a filament the more often they are turned on and off the shorter their life will be; this means turning them on and of with presence detection to reduce their use and save money on your bill could backfire when you have to frequently replace the tubes. If you do go down this route make sure the drivers feature warm start and don't set the controls to frequently turn the lights on and off.
As mentioned before, sometimes lights are used as decoration or simply to give an area the right ambience. Sometimes lights are considered based on their energy efficiency. LED strip lights are often used because they are more energy efficient and safer than traditional lights. Lamps usually light corners or specific areas, and are more visual then say, ceiling lights. Sometimes lights set the mood, other times they are used to increase productivity. Either way, lamps and lighting accessories are a great way to create a whole new look to a room without too much effort or cost.
Each lamp is attached by contacts to the wire and has a staked end which can be pushed into the ground to keep the lamp anchored and secure. Wire can be buried under two or three inches of soil or mulch. Today, a new line of LED landscape lighting lamps are available. LED's last longer, provide bright, white light and are more energy efficient. Transformers, wire and lamp heads can be purchased separately or in a kit which includes wire, transformer, contacts and lamps. Kits come in a variety of wattages and lamp styles and range in cost from $20.00 to $150.00, depending on the size of the transformer, length of wire and number of lamps.
