Accent light: Such light is typically four times the intensity of an area's general (ambient) light and focuses attention on a specific object or room fixture. Quite often, halogen lights are used to provide a bright-white glow to an object. In some cases, the accent light can be equipped with a focusing lens in order to target a specific feature of a fixture or object. Display light: This light is typically of low voltage and is used in the display of small keepsakes, figurines, dinnerware, etc. In this case, xenon or halogen lights which range from 3W to 20W are typically used.
Another of the reasons why LEDs are proving so popular as lights is their ability to produce color specific light. Unlike incandescent bulbs which normally require a colored lens to produce the red, blue, and green colors necessary for navigation lighting, LEDs can produce these colors naturally. This means that clear lenses can be used, resulting in a brighter navigation light without the colored lens that can reduce the fixtures overall light output. While LED navigation lights are certainly available with colored lenses for the purists out there, they simply aren't necessary and in reality reduce overall effectiveness.
Now we can take the color of our light source that we are looking at and compare it with the Color Rendering Index (CRI). The CRI of a light source compares the color of the source to a Black Body color index of the same color temperature. The maximum Color Rendering Index number that is possible is 100. The higher the CRI of your light source the more natural colors will appear when illuminated by it. Light sources with a low CRI will distort the colors that are viewed with them.High (above 80) CRI is preferred in the home. ENERGY STAR requires that qualified fixtures have lamps with CRI above 80. Daylight and all incandescent and halogen light sources have a CRI of 100 and they are excellent at rendering color. For a warm lamp, the CRI is a measure of how close to incandescent color it is, and for a very cool lamp the CRI is how close to daylight it is. The lamps CRI should be listed in the Manufacture's literature.
