Lighting essentially determines color. Different types of light accentuate different areas of the spectrum: the red carpet viewed under cool fluorescent light with a heavy blue-green spectral distribution will look dull and lifeless, while it will look warm and vibrant under an incandescent fixture. Color selections by remote often lead to surprises because of the project site's specific orientation to the sun and lighting conditions. To minimize the problem of color shifts, it is imperative to view materials on site, under the lighting expected for the installation.
Firstly, it is important to consider the full range of activities that will take place in that particular room. Your choice of lighting should be tailored to match these activities. For example; whilst a general light may be suitable for most bathroom activities, you may choose to add wall lights next to, or above the bathroom mirror to make it brighter and therefore easier to shave, or apply make up in that area. In this example, wall lights would also eradicate shadows that would be cast by a ceiling light.
Induction lighting was invented over 130 years ago as a potential revival to incandescent light but never really caught on. It has seen a rejuvenation over the last few years which has seen more money spent on product development. Induction lighting is best at lighting large spaces and the more powerful units are more efficient. The technology is similar to fluorescent except it uses electro-magnetic coils to excite the gas rather than a filament. Removing this weakness from the light mean that life expectancy is 100,000 hours (that's getting on for 12 years of continuous operation).
