LEDs are nothing like an incandescent light bulb. They have no glass bulb, there is no filament, and there is very little heat produced. This is because LEDs produce light in a wholly different manner. Rather than heat a filament like an incandescent bulb to produce light, which is by the way extremely inefficient, LEDs produce light through a process called electroluminescence. Rather than go into a long and drawn out technical explanation, it's enough to simply say that electrical power is fed through a small piece of semi-conducting material which then emits light energy. This process is extremely efficient, produces little heat, and is basically solid stated in operation, meaning there are no parts to simply burn up or wear out in a short period of time. At the most basic level, an LED is a diode, just like you'd find in a radio or your computer. They're efficient, compact, and powerful light sources that can operate for several years without fail.
If you decide to install high voltage lighting I recommend that you consult an electrician for advice. Get him or her to carry out the basic cabling and installation work. If you choose a low voltage system (by far the most popular) you can much more easily install it yourself providing you follow some basic safety guidelines. The specification for the cables is still important, but you don't need to bury them deep underground as you would for a high voltage system. However, bear in mind that the cables are still capable of giving electric shocks if damaged. Most garden centers have a wide assortment of low voltage systems and fittings that are suitable for outdoor use. If you buy a low voltage kit it will come with a transformer as well as cabling and fittings. Make sure that you position the transformer in a dry place indoors or in a garageoutbuilding.

LED converts 80% of your electrical energy into light energy. So it does really justify for what you pay off. This ultimately reduces your expense on electricity bill and thus, saves both energy and money.
