Fruit choices are now offered, including apple slices and mandarin orange segments, and meals have milk instead of pop, or juice boxes, and yogurt, plus grilled entrees. A focus on children and healthy meals is on the front burner instead of greasy fried foods and super-sizing. Even the oil the food is fried in has been improved to be healthier. People want healthy fast food chains to give them better, less dangerous food items that are very clear. And the chains are reacting, and will continue to do so, as long as there is demand. Like any other item in the free market, demand runs the engine.
Pay close attention to the descriptions on the menu Make sure to stay away from anything creamy, crispy, Alfredo, with cream sauce, deep-friend, breaded, scalloped, and pan-fried as these will wreak havoc on your diet plans. Even if you're dining in a fast food restaurant, there are usually items on the menu with vegetables and leaner meats that make for healthy meals.
When choosing an item from the menu be aware of the amount of calories that are in salad dressings, cheese and sour cream. Those additions can make a healthy selection high in fat and calories. Ask for a grilled chicken sandwich but get them to hold the mayonnaise. Some restaurants are now offering their customers alternatives like salads with low calorie or fat free dressings. If you don't see those items, ask. They are often available, just not displayed with the unhealthier options.
